Como
Como is located at the southern end of the lake but is one of the northernmost provincial capitals in the Lombardy region. It is an important center for international tourism as well as for its industry, particularly the production of Como silk.
Silk and other attractions draw numerous visitors from all over the world throughout the year, making Como a lively city 365 days a year.
Known as the "Capital of Lake Como," Como is the main hub of the so-called Lakes Region in Lombardy. The city center lies at the southern tip of the lake’s western branch, in a small basin surrounded by forested moraine hills—a truly scenic location.
Within a few kilometers, you can experience everything from high mountains to the lake, from wild alpine valleys to the industrialized hills of Brianza, from the urban area of Como to small villages, from wildlife sanctuaries in the north to ski slopes in the south.
Nestled among the colors of nature—especially blue—Como is an excellent starting point for exploring the surrounding valleys. While a weekend in the city is great, planning a tour through the nearby villages, lakes, mountains, and green areas is definitely a fantastic idea.
Como also hosts many events of various kinds, including the notable Festival Como Città della Musica—a music festival organized by the Teatro Sociale and the Municipality, held in some of the city’s most beautiful locations.
