Reggio Emilia
Reggio Emilia is one of the most beautiful art cities in Italy, and the quality of life here is undeniably high. According to several surveys, it ranks among the most prosperous and livable cities in the country, also thanks to the many parks spread across the municipal area.
Being in one of the most renowned Italian regions for its traditional cuisine, it's impossible not to stop and enjoy a plate of stuffed tortellini with ragù and a generous serving of lasagna.
Together with Parma, Reggio Emilia is also famous as the birthplace of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.
A great number of events and festivals are held in Reggio Emilia, drawing many visitors to the city.
Since 2005, the city has hosted the annual Soli Deo Gloria concert series, which includes the show Organs, Sounds and Voices of the City, promoted by the Municipality and the Diocese of Reggio Emilia and directed by Maestro Renato Negri.
This event is dedicated to promoting the musical heritage of the province.
In addition, every three years the city celebrates its long musical tradition by hosting the "Premio Paolo Borciani" International String Quartet Competition, one of the most important contests for young musicians in Italy and Europe.
But Reggio Emilia is not only about music. In recent years, the city has also embraced other forms of art, especially modern and jazz dance, thanks to the Aterballetto and Cosi-Stefanescu schools, as well as photography.
Since 2006, every May the city hosts Fotografia Europea, a cultural event featuring exhibitions and activities that appeal even to those who aren't photography enthusiasts. During the opening days, there are also meetings, debates, and performances aimed at raising awareness around the theme of photography.
Reggio Emilia is also home to Italy’s most important chess event, the New Year’s Tournament, created by Grandmaster Enrico Paoli.
