Between a meeting, an event and a keynote, what to do in your free time in Trento and its surroundings?
In addition to admiring the beautiful Piazza Duomo, with the Neptune fountain, the majestic San Vigilio cathedral and the mountains as a backdrop, here are some tips for discovering and experiencing Trento and the splendid Garda Trentino area.
Buonconsiglio Castle – A perfectly preserved fortress in the heart of the historic center. Once the seat of the prince bishops, lords of the city, and now home to museums and temporary exhibitions.
MUSE – Science Museum – An innovative design, the work of star architect Renzo Piano, a tropical waterfall inside and many engaging and innovative laboratories. The Muse is one of the most important natural science museums in Europe.
The Cable Car to Sardagna – Just behind the Trento train station there is a cable car that takes you to the hamlet of Sardagna, from which you can enjoy a fantastic view of the city.
The Ponte Alto Ravine – Just take a bus from the bus station to reach the Ponte Alto Ravine in a quarter of an hour, an astonishing canyon in the rock carved out by the Fersina torrent.
“Records”, at the Piedicastello Galleries – The first of the 3 exhibitions of the “Anelli di congiunzione” project, designed to approach the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics and Paralympics. The exhibition explores the first theme, that of measurement, telling the story of sport from this point of view, through an immersive and scenographic path, enriched by numerous experiential stations, photographs, archive videos, commentaries…
Avio Castle – If you arrive from the south on the A22 and are heading towards Rovereto and Trento, take a short detour to admire the Sabbionara d’Avio Castle, one of the most beautiful places in Italy by FAI.
The MART, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Rovereto – A fifteen-minute walk from the train station. As soon as you arrive at the Mart, before entering, stop to admire the square in front of the entrance and the dome, designed by the star architect Mario Botta. The museum hosts important temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
Rovereto Castle – It is a real fortress, which played a leading role both in the Middle Ages and in the First World War, today it houses the Italian Historical War Museum. It takes a couple of hours to visit it all.
MAG, Museo Alto Garda – The imposing Rocca di Riva del Garda, an ancient medieval castle on the shores of Lake Garda, houses the Mag, with its three permanent sections, the spaces reserved for temporary exhibitions and the “Invento” laboratory-path, aimed at children and families.
