CASTRUM WINE RELAIS

Address: Via Castello 21 - 37029 - San Pietro in Cariano (VR)

WELCOME TO VALPOLICELLA!

Castrum is the mirror of the Valpolicella Classica! The Relais is located close to Castelrotto Castle and in its square: military stronghold built by the Lombards in the 7th century. From this Castle, Federico di Svevia, the Great King of Germany, in 1177 changed the name of the area from Val di Veriago and Pruvigniano to VALPOLICELLA.

CASTRUM WINE RELAIS

The Ralais has 12 rooms & suites, located inside the property and on the two floors of Casa Fraccaroli.

The rooms inside the property with a surprising and urban style are equipped with every comfort.

These rooms represent the VALPOLICELLA with the indication of the 5 localities included in the protected area of Valpolicella Classica, in each of them you will find the story of this area, from the field to the cellar.

The Suite’s area is located in Casa Fraccaroli. 5 suites are dedicated to the great sculptor INNOCENZO FRACCAROLI, born in this villa in 1805. Our guests can choose between Suite GIUSTIZIA, Suite DAVIDE, Suite ICARO, Suite CLIZIA and the most important of them, the ACHILLE Suite. Finally, a gem is the suite dedicated to Nonna ARGENE FRACCAROLI.

The Fraccaroli family and its descendants have owned this complex since its origins and until today the entire village has been inherited from generation to generation. The current owner, Giampiero Borghetti, remembers his childhood in this house where he tooks his first steps with his grandmother Argene Fraccaroli.

CASTRUM is also CASTRUM WINE BAR & BISTRO and CASTRUM WINERY

The bistro is open 7 days a week, a reference point for locals and for those visiting Valpolicella, a concept bar that offers aperitif drinks, signature cocktails and an accurate wine list and the bistro kitchen with appealing dishes.

CASTRUM WINERY where the Fraccaroli’s family had been producing wine since the 18th century. PAOLO BORGHETTI built the current cellar in 1980 and today his son Giampiero Borghetti takes care of it directly, with passion. Wine tastings are organized directly in the cellar in a dedicated area, with large tables and an overall view of the barrels.

Giampiero Borghetti has dedicated to CASTRUM an entire line of Valpolicella wines carefully prepared and selected in the cellar on the property. The CASTRUM range offers: Achille (amarone), Davide (ripasso), Giustizia (classic valpolicella), Icaro (corvina) and Clizia (recioto).

Every corner of CASTRUM is pefect to the organization of events, meetings and private or corporate parties.

Discover Verona

Verona is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Italy, and the largest in the Veneto region after Venice. Located near Lake Garda, gently nestled at the foot of the Venetian Prealps and along the banks of the Adige River, Verona is known for its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage that captures the heart.

Verona is not only the city of Romeo and Juliet, but also known as the “Gateway to Italy”, as it welcomes those arriving from the north with a preview of the country’s beauty and cultural wealth. The city enchants visitors with its historic atmosphere and priceless treasures.

What to see in Verona?

Start with Verona's iconic landmarks: the Roman Amphitheatre, better known as the Arena di Verona, is the city’s most famous symbol alongside Romeo and Juliet. Built in the 1st century AD, this impressive structure once hosted gladiator games. Its name comes from the word “rena”—the sand that covered the arena floor—and it could hold up to 30,000 spectators.

Next, explore Verona's fortresses: a must-see is Castelvecchio, a fortress built by Cangrande II della Scala to protect the city from threats. Today, it houses a museum featuring numerous masterpieces, including Mantegna’s Holy Family, Rubens’ Portrait of a Woman, and Bellini’s Saint Jerome in Penitence, among others.

Don’t miss Verona’s theaters and museums: in particular, the Roman Theatre of Verona, an open-air theatre dating back to the 1st century BC. It is one of the best-preserved theatres in northern Italy, home to the city’s Archaeological Museum, a performance space, and the venue for Verona’s summer theatre festival.

Take a walk through Verona’s piazzas: no visit is complete without seeing Piazza Brà, one of the largest squares in Europe, dominated by the Arena and elegant historic buildings. It’s a popular meeting point for chatting, strolling, and enjoying an aperitivo. Don’t miss “Il Liston”, a wide walkway paved with pink marble from Valpolicella, running through the square.

Veronese cuisine has humble, rural roots, but it offers unforgettable flavors. What to eat in Verona?

  • Start with “polenta e osei”, small roasted birds served with polenta—an unusual delicacy for lovers of bold, traditional tastes.
Then there are the Valeggio tortellini, among the Veneto’s most famous dishes: thin pasta filled with a delicious, delicate stuffing.
Finally, try risotto al tastasal, made with seasoned and peppered minced pork—rich, hearty, and full of flavor.
