Discover Lucca

The city of Lucca is also traditionally called the “City of a Hundred Churches” due to the large number of religious buildings, dating back to different eras. First of all, there is the Cathedral of San Martino, which dates back to the 6th century and is very particular due to the strangeness of its asymmetrical facade, in Roman style.

Lucca is a small city, whose historic center is easy to explore on foot. There are numerous accommodation facilities, both inside and outside the medieval walls, of various types and for different budgets.

Speaking of food and wine and local cuisine, those staying in Lucca cannot help but try the famous tordelli lucchesi, fresh pasta filled in the shape of a crescent and seasoned with meat sauce, the farro soup, the frantoiana soup and the matuffi, a dish based on polenta. Another tasty soup is the garmugia, of ancient origins and linked to the seasonality of the products, therefore different depending on the period in which it is cooked.

Among the second courses, the rovellina alla lucchese stands out, that is a slice of breaded beef and ricotta in sauce and the biroldo, a sausage made with all the scraps of pork. The buccellato is among the tastiest and simplest desserts in Lucca; it is a type of bread with the addition of raisins and anise, then brushed with sugar and egg.

To spend the evenings, most of the places are located near via Fillungo; here you are spoiled for choice and it will not be difficult to find the place that best suits your tastes.
